Review movie Afterlife: a horror horror but not enough drama

Following the ongoing success of Thai films  Director Chartchai Ketnust has introduced audiences to his latest horror film "The Only Mon." ). The film is based on a haunted theme that is expected to bring fear from the mysterious Myanmar land. Let's go to the cinema to review the Afterlife movie before deciding to go to the cinema to enjoy it.

Thai director Chartchai Ketnust also had experience in making successful Thai and Myanmar compositions such as "From Bangkok to Mandalay". And the Underworld is another SolarMovie Therefore, this film has Thai horror but also very typical of Myanmar culture

Synopsis: Only mom tells the story of a haunted family of three members with a young child with autism. The story begins when their family decides to move to a small house in the suburbs with the aim of creating a peaceful environment for the autistic daughter to develop normally.

In this place, the life of the whole family began to change, especially the daughter became docile during the day and just liked to play at midnight. Not only that, strange things are appearing more and more, making the father start to worry.

The father watched the child and worriedly told his wife about his doubts, but only made the family atmosphere more stressful and gloomy. The bizarre photographs discovered by the father will lead them to clues about the unusual changes of their children.

The film has a safe storytelling style and uses familiar items from horror movies like dolls, haunted houses, photos, .... The director also cleverly integrated details in Burma's culture to make a difference for the film. The good part of the movie is mostly focused in the first half, if you are a fan of horror movies you will love this opening sequence. But later, the situation became more and more confusing.

From the climax to the end of the film, I was quite disappointed, with the knots created well but the director handling the final part was not convinced. Although the plot has a plot twist but quite light, both easy to guess and not enough horror.

The cast in the movie rounded off the role. The leading roles are all famous leading actors of Myanmar cinema such as Wutt Hmone Shwe Yi, handsome actor Nine Nine. The duo coordinated quite well, especially doing well the psychological evolution of the character. The supporting roles such as child stars Pyae Pyae and Tone Tone do well in their role. Although they are small, these two kids are quite good at acting, leaving an impression on the audience.

The review of The Afterlife is a scary ghost movie that is scary enough to scare but not good enough to attract the audience to the theater. If you want to know more about Myanmar or want to experience the scary feeling of scare, the Underworld will be the right choice for you this week.
